August 30,1955 - April 26, 2017
this sad news came to my attention resently.
Suzanne Calderone, 61, of Brisbee, Arizona, passed away in Tucson on April 26, 2017. Suzie was born August 30, 1955 in Spring Valley, New York. She was raised in South Pasadena and attended art and photography classes during the evenings at Pasadena City College while still attending South Pasadena High School.
Upon graduation, Suzie was employed at the Los Angeles Times. After seven years of employment there, she was hired by the US Forest Service in California Hot Springs located in the High Sierras, as a forest firefighter. She eventually became a member of the elite Hot Shot unit. Suzanne studied continuously and became very knowledgeable and efficient in her outstanding career. While fighting a fierce fire, she sustained a leg injury, became incapable of running quickly, and retired from the US Forest Service. She was accepted as a Park Ranger Assistant at the Elk Preserve in northern California. Her daily responsibilities varied and she enjoyed the outdoor environment. Her position was a seasonal one; however, she was quickly employed as a supervisor.
Suzie's favorite hobbies were the arts and music. She composed beautiful classical piano melodies. She never had a music lesson but was blessed with the special gift. Her paintings were outstanding. Many were displayed in art galleries and were sold. She loved Southwestern gourmet dinners and became an extraordinary cook of the special recipes. An avid reader of nonfiction, she applied the knowledge obtained to her personal life.
Suzie set an excellent example of perseverance and hope to all cancer and other seriously ill patients. We shall all miss her, especially her family and many local and nationwide friends. Suzie is survived by her mother Lenore Ramroth and sister Patricia Calderone Houston (SPHS '70). She was preceded in death by her father Michael Calderone and her stepfather, Charles Ramroth.

Suzanne was forever humble. I remember her in junior high mostly as a shy - but curious - individual. A Tiger Cub if memory serves me right. What an accomplished individual - journalist, firefighter, artist, chef...that's the Tiger Spirit! My deepest condolences and sympathies at the loss of yet another outstanding Tiger.

Suzanne was such a quiet and gentle soul throughout middle school and high school. We shared many classes together, and in every situation I enountered, she was always kind to those around her. Her accomplishments in life were impressive, yet she was humble. I’m not surprised!

(By the way...if anyone has kept in contact with John Davis, please let him know, as I know they became close friends at the end of high school.)

It is a most sad day to learn of Suzanne's passing - as others have already stated, she was an amazing, sweet, gentle soul. She always had an ever-ready smile to pass on to others. It is a loss here on Earth however a gain for the Heavens as another Tiger Angel looks over us. My heartfelt thoughts go out to those whose life was touched by her.

So sad to hear of another one of our Tigers passing. What a wonderfully eventful life she lead. Seems she reached out and grabbed what she wanted in this life....and a Hot Shot to boot! What an well-esteemed career she had, and when she could no longer hold that spot she still went on to accomplish what most don't in a life time. I remember her as kind and gentle soul who always wore a beautiful smile. Although we were not close in school, when our paths did cross she always had a smile and kind words... I'm sure she touched many lives ......She will be missed by those whose life was touched by her grace....R.I.P. Suzanne was a quiet girl filled with grace and a good neighbor and friend whom I shared many walks, talks and slumber parties with.
